Middle School Science Lessons

Objectives: students will get an overview of how minerals are classified and some of their general uses.

Lesson Materials:

• Groups of Minerals – Google slides that go through the groups of Silicates and Non-Silicates with examples of minerals and their uses (view only, make a copy to edit)
  • created with images & information from Mineralogy 4 Kids
  • Silicate Minerals – students will write examples of minerals and their uses, graphic organizer (pdf)
  • Non-Silicate Minerals – students will write examples of minerals and their uses, graphic organizer (pdf)
• Mineral Notes – general overview and vocabulary (Google doc, make a copy to edit)
• Mineral Groups Notes – students will explore the website independently and take more detailed notes on the groups of minerals with a focus on Non-Silicates (pdf)
