Adopt a City Lesson 3 – Introduction to Data Collection and Google Sheets
Objectives: Students will collect weather and astronomy data for their home location and adopted city. Data will be entered periodically into their Google Sheet. Students can also add their data to the graphing tabs and start comparing data as the year goes on.
To introduce data collection, I would model how to find the weather data for your location and how to enter it on to the spreadsheet. I liked to start class with the interactive weather globes and ask students for general observations and to practice map skills.
- Depending on the city location & time zone, it may be a different DATE, in addition to AM or PM, compared to where you are, remind students to keep a note of that in their data collection.
- Have students record data at various times, sometimes during class and sometimes for homework due to different time zones.
To go over phases of the moon, I have several moon lessons and activities that you can find by searching in the SEARCH bar or the tags: moon, moon phases.
I also have a Google Slide Deck on Sunlight & Guided Notes Google Doc (View only, make a copy of each to edit)
